Texture on Texture: Four Fabulous Flooring Combinations

Here’s a common scenario in the DIY world. You choose the perfect flooring — a strong foundation for a room — and the just-right shade for the walls. But before you bring the furniture back in, there’s just one more thing you’ll need. A rug.

Rugs add color and texture to a room and soften the acoustics of any space. And let’s face it — they up the comfort factor substantially (there’s nothing like something plush underfoot). Here are four flooring combinations I’m loving for 2018 — and beyond!

Abstract

I’m wild for watercolor-inspired rugs right now, like this multi-colored Patina creation from Karastan. The fluid, contemporary design is ideal for a modern, minimalistic space and pairs beautifully with cooler wood tones, like Quick•Step’s Gable Oak flooring from the Envique collection.

Moroccan

You’ve gotta love a bright, bold geometric print, like this Moroccan-inspired Amias Medallion rug from Mohawk. It brings pattern and strong pops of color to a room. It’s a striking complement to warm wood tones, like Quick•Step’s new shade, Dutch Oak, from the Envique collection.

Striped

I’ve never been disappointed by a striped rug. It’s a classic design choice that never ever goes out of style. This coastline-inspired Riviera Stripe rug by Karastan, pictured in aqua, would be absolutely gorgeous over a whitewashed floor, like this Elevae Lambswool Oak from Quick•Step.

Subtle

Tone on tone is a sure bet — always. This Mohawk Ash Ogee rug, a subtle geometric print in soft shades of linen and cream, would be a gorgeous complement to the Sculpture Oak from the Quick•Step Veriluxe collection.
