Considering upgrading your worn-out carpet for laminate that will go the distance? Wendy Hyde from The Shabby Nest gives her expert tips on how to choose the best laminate for your home. Wendy is an interior designer and a mother of four whose blog, The Shabby Nest, started as a passion project and has evolved into a subsequent book Decorating for Real Life and has been featured in national publications, like Country Living Magazine.
“For people that are not as familiar with flooring as I am, the word ‘laminate’ might conjure up images of the cheap not-quite-wood-looking floors of years past. But let me tell you…laminate has come a long way!” explained Wendy. “In short, it was the perfect choice for me.”
Going into the project, Wendy had to consider a few things that would influence her choice, which might also be a factor in your home.
First, Wendy encourages you to pay attention to anything permanent you might not be changing soon. “For example, I knew that I wouldn’t be pulling up the tile in my kitchen or the carpet that was on the stairs. Since those were staying, it was important that whatever laminate I chose worked well as it transitioned to those other flooring types,” Wendy said.
The next step is fun… samples! By placing the samples next to the fixtures and items in your home you know are permanent, you can really get a feel for how it will look once the room is complete. And for those who might struggle seeing the big picture, check out our Style My Floor App, which allows you to conveniently “try on” any Quick•Step floor right in your home. It even allows you to visualize how our floors look with your existing furniture and fixtures – the perfect feature for this kind of project.
In any sized space, switching up the flooring really changes the look and feel of a room. We love the light-colored Envique™ Lineage Oak that Wendy chose. It really makes a big difference in her living room and blends well with her decor.
